Marquesas Mothership Program

The Marquesas Keys offer some of the best fly fishing in the world for tarpon, permit, bonefish, and barracuda. These pristine islands are located about 25 miles west of Key West, Florida, and are home to a variety of shallow-water flats and reefs that offer ideal sight fishing for inshore flats species.

And what better way to experience the magic of the Marquesas than aboard the Lazy Tarpon? The Lazy Tarpon has all the comforts of a luxury hotel room, but with a much shorter commute! Wake up, hop aboard your guide's skiff, and arrive at some of the best flats fishing in the United States within minutes. Planning a live-aboard program to the Marquesas on the Lazy Tarpon will allow you to fish the early morning and late evening bites in solitude without having to make long (and sometimes quite rough!) runs in the dark.

These trips are 100% custom built and tailored by you. However, to make planning your trip easier, we have built sample itineraries, shopping lists, and planning lists. We can also provide you with a list of experienced captains for the Lazy Tarpon as well as a list of some of the best flats guides in the world. However, you are free to customize your trip as you see fit!

The Fishing:

Tarpon are one of the most prized game fish in the world, and the Marquesas Keys are a great place to target them on fly during the annual spring migration. Large adult tarpon can be found cruising the interior lagoon, in channels, and on ocean-side sand and grass flats.

Permit are another highly sought-after fly fishing target in the Marquesas. These fish are known for their intelligence and picky feeding habits. Permit are typically found tailing on the flats or in schools on various wrecks.

Bonefish are a popular fly fishing target due to their speed and long runs. Bonefish can typically be found year round feeding on the flats in small groups and large schools.

Barracuda are a fun and challenging fly fishing target. These fish are known for their sharp teeth and aggressive strikes. Barracuda can be found on the flats, in channels, and around reefs.
